This 3-hour live webinar is divided into three parts:

Introductory Talk (45 minutes)
The webinar begins with an overview of Renoir’s life and career, covering topics such as his background, training and influences, his style and technique and how these evolved during his long career, his use of colour, his signature application of paint, and his methods and materials.
We will then focus on his style and approach to painting in the 1870s, which represents his pure impressionistic phase before his style and attitude moved towards a more formal classical direction.
Painting Demonstration (120 minutes)
You will have the opportunity to watch a 2-hour demonstration of one of his paintings from the 1870s. This demonstration will cover what materials he used, including oil colours, mediums, solvents and brushes, and the different stages of the painting. You will be shown a range of different techniques that Renoir employed in this painting, such as dry-brush, scumbling, glazing and impasto.
The technical information, such as pigment analysis and materials, in this demonstration painting have been have been analysed by the research departments at major art museums, and the reproduction in this demonstration is based on their findings.
Live Q&A (15 minutes)
You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the painting demonstration and time will be allowed at the end of the webinar for a more detailed discussion and question and answer session.
