This is a multi-faceted workshop and artistic experience, combining practical and theoretical art instruction in studio with guided tours and visits to some of Italy’s most esteemed art collections and museums. Savour the atmosphere of Rome and infuse your original painting projects with your experience and learning. You will be shown age-old methods and techniques, which you will then apply to your own modern or contemporary painting.
The workshop includes:
- 24 hours of art instruction
- 6+ hours of museum visits, plus taxis from studio to museums
- Most art materials (oil paint, mediums, solvents, canvas, etc.) will be supplied
- 20-page handbook
- Printed reference images
- Live demonstrations
- Feedback and critique
- Shipping of your painting(s) when they’ve dried

Guided Museum Visits
The 5-day workshop includes two guided museum visits to Galleria Borghese and Gallerie Nazionali d’Arte Antica: Palazzo Barberini on Wednesday, 4th November 2026. You will have the option of lunch in Piazza di Spagna, and evening dinner in Piazza Navona.
Optional Extra Day: Saturday 7th November 2026
If you decide to add an extra day to the workshop, Saturday, 7th November 2026, you will be given a guided visit of Galleria Corsini in the morning and Villa Farnesina in the afternoon. Galleria Corsini is part of the National Gallery of Art and is located on Via della Lungara in the Trastevere district. Villa Farnesina is situated just across the street from this. We will have lunch in Trastevere – a vibrant and atmospheric district of Rome.

Not Included
The following items are not included in the workshop fee:
- Paintbrushes, palette, palette knife. You will need to bring these yourself.
- Travel insurance. It is highly recommended that you have your own insurance in case of an emergency or illness.
- Meals. Although we will often have lunch and dinner together as a group, these are not included in the workshop fee.

To avoid any complications on airlines, most art materials and equipment will be provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own. In this case, please download the materials checklist below, so that you know what you might want to bring.

DEPOSITS & FEES
- A 50% deposit is required to secure your place on this workshop. The balance of the workshop fee is then required by 15th September 2026.
- Deposits and workshop fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
- Minimum enrolment requirement for this workshop is six participants. Workshop participants will be notified if this number is not reached by 15th September 2026. At that time, you will be given the choice of either enrolling in another workshop, availability permitting, or having your deposit refunded.
- In the event of the cancellation of this workshop for reasons beyond my control, participants are strongly advised to acquire travel insurance that covers the loss of any amounts paid for airfare and accommodation.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
- The workshop hours in studio are covered by public liability insurance. However, it is strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover unexpected illness and medical expenses, trip cancellation, delays, lost or stolen baggage, personal liability, etc.
OIL PAINTS
Oil paints, solvents and mediums (such as mineral spirits, turpentine and linseed oil) will be used on this course, and these have a small and safe degree of toxicity but can emit strong fumes, which may cause headaches, drowsiness and skin irritations.
