This course is designed for beginners as well as those who wish to improve their drawing and painting skills. Weekly classes are grouped into two 6-week blocks, which can be taken individually or together.
This course provides a solid introduction to drawing and painting, or if you have some experience already, it serves to refresh what you already know or fill in any gaps in your learning to date. On this course, you will:
- Learn essential drawing and painting skills and techniques
- Understand how the building blocks of a picture work
- Discover different methods of drawing and painting, each with a clear step-by-step approach
- Receive clear and accurate information about art, techniques and practices
- Get excellent support, advice and constructive feedback
- Build your confidence
Weekly art projects and exercises will cover various subject matter including still life, portrait, figure and landscape. You will have the opportunity of trying out different media, from pencil and charcoal to oil and acrylic, getting to know the pros and cons of each, and seeing which one(s) appeal to you.
This course will build your confidence, whether you’re a complete beginner or just wishing to improve your skills and knowledge.

This course provides definitive information about drawing and painting and the current standards around tools and materials, methods and techniques. We take a down-to-earth approach, and demystify a lot of the jargon around art and its techniques.

Oil paints, solvents and mediums (such as mineral spirits, turpentine and linseed oil) will be used on this course, and these have a small and safe degree of toxicity but can emit strong fumes, which may cause headaches, drowsiness and skin irritations.

Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Adrian Cooke Artist reserves the right to cancel this course at any time if the minimum number of students required is not reached. In such cases, your fee will be fully refunded.
