Understanding how to represent light and colour effectively in painting is of vital importance. Indeed, it could easily be argued that the whole painting is bound up in these two elements, as all of the other visual aspects like design, value, form and texture are wholly dependent on light and colour.

This 5-week course teaches you the essential aspects of light (and shadow) and colour and will help you take your paintings to the next level.

You can do this course in any painting medium, whichever you’re accustomed to – oil, acrylic, watercolour or gouache – as the nature and behaviour of light and colour is common to all. Painting methods and techniques specific to your medium will be covered.

You will be shown how to create realistic and luminous paintings, touching on a range of subject matter, from portrait and figure to still life and landscape.
